November '23: Footnotes
The month, annotated
In case you missed the September or October editions - Footnotes is a new format I’m sending out on the last Sunday of every month. This is the place for articles/objects/places/spaces that have piqued my interest recently – (mostly) outside the realm of books and literature.
The year hurtles on. It feels somewhat trite to compile a list of frivolities in a time of so much suffering but I do believe in striving for levity in life wherever possible, so here we go…
This month, I spent a weekend celebrating my birthday in Miami: a city I’ve been visiting since I was 17 and continue to love, despite the naysayers. It made for a very welcome respite from the winter cold into which we are rapidly descending. Otherwise, it has been a November filled with work and forward planning: Among other projects, I just launched a new creative consultancy called Salon Studio (more on that very soon) and there’s a new episode of Deep Read with Rita’s co-owner Missy Flynn up here, in case you missed it.
Like most of you, I’m more than ready to wind down into the festive period…while also trying to power through a never-ending to-do list before I do so.
