Hello, and happy (almost) Spring. We had a consecutive run of glorious days in London last week and everything felt hopeful again. The grey is back today, but that hit of sunshine should keep us going until Actual Spring arrives sometime in…May?

Instead of a Deep Read episode today (scheduling issues, boo) I thought I’d share some of my current thinking / recurrent conversation points as a form of open dialogue with you, my reader. Does any of the below resonate with you? Are these thoughts showing up in your life and conversations? Let me know in the comments.

I’d also love to hear your suggestions for future Deep Read guests! My algorithm only extends so far.

Thank you for reading,

Phoebe

On My Mind: March 2025

Read on for thoughts on…

  • The creative industries vs. content creators. Who will win out?

  • A year after giving birth, daily epiphanies on the nature of impermanence and real-time nostalgia.

  • AI discourse that feels like misguided pandemic survivalism.

  • Speaking of which…The pandemic started five years ago?! WTF. But also: many people are still recalibrating (including me).

It seems that a significant number of the creative professionals I know are - quietly or not so quietly - struggling to find work and make money. I think many people pushed through 2023/2024 believing that it was only a matter of time before they found their footing again, post-pandemic (or post-dry spell, or post-whatever) but the conversations I’ve had recently have been more panicky. People are losing faith, running out of money, and generally freaking out.
