I’m excited to announce that I’m launching a new event series this month: DEEP READ SALON, which combines a live Deep Read podcast recording with an intimate Salon discussion.
The first event in the series is with the multi-disciplinary artist, Ronan Mckenzie. I’ve been an admirer of Ronan’s work since she launched HOME in 2020 – a gallery, library, co-work and event space in North London, that provided both a platform and a home for underserved creative communities. I was equally impressed by the grace with which she stepped away from the project in 2023. Whenever I speak to Ronan, or hear her speak, I always find myself inspired. Her body of work - be it photography, design, or curation - is so visually stunning; so carefully considered. It’s an honour to have her as my first guest.
Given that the first DEEP READ SALON will be held on June 24th, just a few days after the Summer Solstice, I thought it would be interesting to talk with Ronan about seasons – both creative and literal. How do we know when it’s time to let go of a cherished project and make space for something else? How can we echo the ebb and flow of nature’s seasons in our working lives? What practices and methods make it possible to move between various projects and mediums, as Ronan does in a seemingly effortless way (although I’m sure it doesn’t always feel like that from her perspective!)? In both the interview and the Salon discussion that follows, I hope to explore these questions, and many more.
As a gesture of gratitude for your support, tickets for this event will be offered to my paying subscribers free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis – further details and sign-up information can be found after the paywall below. The capacity of the first venue is very limited but I plan to host future DEEP READ SALONS in larger venues, with tickets available to all.
I hope to see some of you on the 24th.
Happy Summer,
Phoebe
