There’s something satisfying about the year ending on a Sunday. Tomorrow is both a new week and a new year. It feels fresh and hopeful – I hope you’re feeling the same.
THIS MONTH
December mostly passed me by. I got very sick earlier in the month and have been regaining lost strength ever since. As a result, this ‘festive period’ has been far less sociable than that of years gone by but I’ve valued the time to rest and recuperate. Someone posted on Twitter that the period between Christmas and NYE comprises “the five best days of the year for reading” and I’ve certainly found that to be true. Alongside the list of 2023 reads that I shared a couple of weeks back, I’ve added a couple of late contenders from the past few days, alongside:
Some of my favourite online long reads of the year.
A TV show that provided light relief while I was in the pits of illness.
For many years, my philosophy on investing in proper winter clothing was: I’d rather spend the money on a flight somewhere sunny. I’ve finally succumbed to slowly building out a loungewear/nightwear collection, so I’m sharing some of my newfound favourites.
A one-pot Japanese recipe that manages to be simultaneously healthy, delicious, simple, and filling. I despise draconian New Year diets and strive to aim for cold-weather nourishment with meals like this instead. Juicing in January?! I think not.
My New Year’s reflections/intentions list.
The one word I’m using to sum up my energy for 2024.
Happy New Year to all!
