The Year in Review
A beautiful day in July, 2024
Longtime subscribers will be familiar with Footnotes, a format where I share the articles/objects/places/spaces on my current radar. Since I took a break from the newsletter this year to have a baby (more on that here) I haven’t posted one of these monthly dispatches for a while, so I’m sharing a bumper round-up to see off the year instead.
For the reasons detailed above, 2024 has allowed far less time for cultural immersion, travel and general ‘out in the world’-ness than years gone by. Obviously, I haven’t had as much time to read either, although reuniting with my books was a bittersweet benefit of my daughter moving to her own room around the six-month mark (leaving me able to read in bed with the bedside light on past 7pm once again). Keeping my intellectual brain engaged has been an important part of my postpartum acclimatisation process, and my lifelong love of learning, thinking, and musing certainly hasn’t left me. So with that said, here’s 2024 in review.
